You may think this sounds strange, but I love being diabetic.
I was diagnosed type one at the age of 17. Yes, there have been struggles and issues but I enjoy a challenge. Diabetes is NOT a condition I have or an illness I suffer from, it is a part of who I am.
I think about it constantly, always in my mind, but it does not control me.
I work very hard to maintain my health, to eat sensibly, carb counting and trying to maintain a basic fitness. I consult my hospital specialist regularly and work WITH them to keep healthy.
Being on a Accuchek Combo pump makes a huge difference in having control. Life is much easier with the flexibility a pump gives me and I highly recommend it.
Becoming diabetic can be a challenge, having bad days can be a challenge, but staying positive makes it all worth while.
Being type one has given me a focus on health that I would never have had otherwise. I'm probably healthier now than I would have been if I was not diabetic.
Many people think of diabetes as their enemy. I say diabetes is my friend. I work with it to make life good.
